The Abner was an experimental post-hardcore band from Chelmsford/London, England, United Kingdom. They started out as Project Abner, before changing their name in 2004. Their EP Chinoiserie Lounge dropped in 2006 on Basick Records. Later they released their single D.I.S.C.O in 2008. They were working on a full length but called it quits before that happened. The band was active from 2001 until 2009. The Abner are an enigma wrapped in a riddle. They've been dubbed by most as a 'partycore' band, and I suppose this definition is accurate. The Abner write music twinging with random jolts of hardcore, jazz-styled funky verses and lyrics running the gamet from Dave's pained yelps about chat show hosts to some of the more silky-smooth and conventional verses about love and marriage. The Abner's guitarist Apple uses a guitar tuning that involves dropping his lower strings down whilst leaving the higher ones at their standard notes, meaning he can create chords (and dischords) unavailable to the majority of other bands. This really helps create the band's unique sound. Oh, and they scream about things being "TWO NINETY-NINE AT SAINSBURYYYYS". Simply amazing :) Discography: As: Project Abner 2 Track Promo CD-R (2003) Subverse Volume 1 Compilation (2003) All My Love/Follow the Pig EP (2003) As: The Abner 2 Track Demo CD-R (2004) Chinoiserie Lounge EP (2006) A Day for Light Refreshment Promo DVD (2007) D.I.S.C.O Single (2008) If You’re Listening To This… Where Were You In 2008?
