Born out of rap's golden era, The '87 Stick Up Kids have emerged as a bastion of true school rap revivalism. Their adept witticisms and natural storytelling collide head on with party monstered, colorfully-produced head bangers, creating a patchwork reflection of hip-hop's vibrant past and ever-changing right now. Nashville, Squish and DJ Rockwell met each other while attending high school in Los Angeles. A mutual interest in music, house parties, and LA's beautiful women laid the groundwork for what would become a longstanding friendship. While hanging outside of Popeye's Chicken one night, they happened upon Atlanta transplant Deacon Trillionaire. One impromptu freestyle session later and an undeniable chemistry was born. The foursome set about raising a flag for their overlooked community. With renegade sensibilities, they blazed a trail for a hip-hop perspective both long forgotten and yet-to-be discovered. Respected by their artistic peers for their metaphor-heavy concept raps and a “no holds barred” production approach, the Kids brilliantly linked their rock-n-roller attitude with the already burgeoning Los Angeles new rap scene.
