The Tewa Indian Women's Choir of Ohkay Owingeh Pueblo NM has been providing liturgical and secular song in their Tewa language since Christmas Eve 1969. Currently under the direction of Susan Roller Whittington (Santa Clara Pueblo descent), the choir continues to sing at local and out-of-state events. The group currently has three (3) CDs in circulation: Fun & Social Songs (2000) and Tewa Christmas (2002). Their first recording, Songs from the Tewa Mass (1994) is out of print. Current members (13) of the choir include: Gertrude Calvert (our translator), Barbara Fauçon (bells & rattles), Patsy Gambler, Elidia Johnson (our bookkeeper), Linda Maestas, Libby Marcus (our drummer, as her health permits), Sylvia Medina, Ethel Morrell, Mary Ann Padilla, Anna Salazar, Isabel Trujillo, Connie Whitehouse, and Susan Roller Whittington (guitar, drum, rattles). Geronima Montoya and Romancita Sandoval are honored "Emeritus" members who join us for special events as they are able.
