Tesla Manaf Effendi was born in Jakarta, august 29th 1987. He started learning classical Piano at age 9 and intensively learning classical Guitar at age 10 until present. He had listened many songs of Mahavishnu Orchestra and Gentle Giant when he studied at elementary school from his father. He won a few of Yamaha classical guitar festivals and became a teacher at age 17. At the age of 19, Tesla moved toward Bandung, Indonesia, to pursue college education, where he began studying jazz to Venche Manuhutu and began playing in several events in and outside Bandung. Tesla first group is Karinding Collaborative Project, which brings ethnic music and world music. The group is based in Bandung. Several months after leaving the group, Tesla started making trio, quartet, and quintet jazz band with his friends from Bandung and Jakarta. Tesla, who still studying at the University of Padjadjaran majoring in Business Administration, are starting to concentrate on jazz and world music. In his third years in playing jazz music, Tesla get a great opportunity to collaborate with the orchestra, choir, music traditional of Bali, Minangkabau, Karawitan and Sundanese music at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and made his first collaboration performance on June 8th 2010.
