Artist
Tasha's World is the moniker used by Dutch soul singer and songwriter, Natascha Slagtand (born 1974 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Hailing from a musical family, Tasha has been surrounded by music all her life, mostly jazz and soul music. Influenced by artists such as Billy Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Curtis Mayfield and The Temptations, Tasha started out by singing jazz only, but soon expanded into soul territory as well. Winner of a bunch of music awards well before she had even signed her record deal, she self-released her eponymous debut album, Tasha's World, in Japan in 2002. The album's European release on Dome Records followed a year later, to rave reviews in the Dutch music press and beyond. A second album, World Domination, followed in 2005, as Tasha and her band seemed headed for great things, a Dutch 'Silver Harp' and festival slots at the Lowlands and North Sea Jazz festivals already under her belt. And then it all fell silent. Tasha's World disappeared from the spotlights as a third album failed to materialize. 2013 seemed to mark Tasha's return, but she decided to withdraw her album BLCK GLD ('Black Gold'), even though it was completely finished. Ten more years of absence followed, until she finally returned and this time for real: her comeback single 'Changes' came out in March 2023, followed by 'Ready to Fall' in March 2025, with a full-length comeback album reportedly in the pipeline.
