Steve Tarter (Tartar?) (ca. 1895 near Knoxville, Tennessee, died mid-1930s), Vocals & Guitar. Harry Gay (November 23, 1904, Gate City, Virginia, died ca.1980), Guitar. Tarter & Gay were a prewar blues guitar duo that were sadly underrecorded. They had one recording session in 1928, two songs were recorded; Brownie Blues and Unknown Blues resulting in one 78 RPM record, originally issued on Victor V38017. Their one recording session took place in Bristol, TN. and may have been produced by Ralph Peer.
