Taphead is a solo project of Risto Paalanen, guitarist and electronic multi-instumentalist of Finnish noise band Älymystö. Named after Talk Talk's song, Taphead plays minimalist dark ambience employing many layers of loops. His influences include David Torn, Nels Cline, Murcof, Alva Noto, and Sonny Sharrock. The first album, "800 Memories Per Second" was released in April 2010, including live improvisation and a slow, haunting adaptation of Erik Satie's "Lent".
