Artist
Talitha Qumi (1991-1997) was a Prog Folk band which formed in 1991 in Cluj, Romania. The name means Maiden Arise in Aramaic. Like the Romanian Prog Folk band Phoenix before them, they take inspiration from folklore and use a number of traditional instruments and vocal techniques to create their own blend of experimental atmospheric folk music. The vocals consist of incantations and recitals in Romanian and Latin. Various symphonic and psychedelic influences may also be detected in their music. Their only album to be released, Despre Cuvinte was recorded and released in 1996 by Soft Records and re-released in 2005. The band has ceased to be active since the recording of this album. Guitarist and vocalist Eugen Nutescu later went on to join the Progressive / Alternative rock band Kumm.
