Taj Bell is a former ballet dancer; she studied at Interlochen Arts Academy as a teenager. She also had the privilege of studying with Judith Jamison of the acclaimed ‘Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre’. Her song writing is a quirky mix of Broadway meets folk meets pop with a touch of Motown. Her songs are pixie pop! Sounds like faeries with multicoloured Afros. Taj’s lyrics are playful and funny with dreamlike imagery. With song titles like “sticky toffee pudding” and “ladyfish” one can taste the exotic ice cream flavours present in her Music. Her influences are Kate Bush, Björk, Tori Amos, and Minnie Riperton. She is currently in the studio, recording her debut album with the wonderful Rea Curran.
