Tadeusz Machl (* 22. October 1922 in Lemberg; † 31. August 2003 in Krakow) was a Polish composer, organist and music teacher. Machl had had piano lessons since the age of 10 and was a pupil of Helena Kasparek at the music school of his hometown. His plans to study at the Moscow Conservatory were prevented by the outbreak of the German-Soviet War in 1941. In the following years he took part in underground concerts in Lviv, where he accompanied Edward Statkiewicz, Andrzej Hiolski, Franciszek Bedlewicz and Romuald Cyganik at the piano. From 1944 to 1947 he was organist at the Church of St. Elisabeth, then at the Corpus Christi Church in Krakow until 1950. From 1947 to 1951 he studied composition with Artur Malawski, instrumentation with Feliks Wrobel and organ with Bronisław Rutkowski at the Krakow State Academy of Music. From 1950 to 1954 he worked for the music publishing house Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne in Krakow. From 1952 to 1998 Machl taught composition and instrumentation at the State Academy of Music in Krakow. Between 1967 and 1973 he was also Dean of the Faculty of Music Theory, Composition and Conducting and later Vice-Rector of the Krakow Academy of Music. From 1982 to 1986 and from 1999 he also taught at the Jagiellonian University. From 1979 to 1983 he conducted the Association of Amateur Choirs and Orchestras of Krakow.
