Tadayoshi Ikawa (井川忠義) is the composer and singer of the Banana Street-Selling Song "Moji Banana No Tatakiuri". Japanese had never seen a banana until the start of the Meiji period, towards the end of the 19th century. They first entered Japan through the port of Shimonoseki, facing Korea in the west of Honshu on the Sea of Japan. The nearest major city was Kitakyushu, right at the northern tip of Kyushu, the southern of the main Japanese islands. It was here that 'Banana no Tatakiuri' selling bananas with this colourful, rapping and stick beating began, in the town of Moji.
