The Nixon Years began its second, and current line-up late in 1999. Kurt found bassist Gordon, and drummer Erik, who left another band together to do something new. Back then they practiced at Orbit Studio in Santa Ana, California. At that time Death By Stereo was a frequent user of Orbit as well. They moved into a lock-out in back of Orbit with Mr. Firley, and US Crush. Mr. Firley was sharing a studio with Drain Bamaged before their move in back of Orbit. Firley disbanded, then reformed with Erik on drums (still playing with Nixon Years, and Ham Radio Ensemble as well). Erik encouraged The Unwanted Guests and Gordon to get together, so Gordon also has a side-project. Kurt followed suit, and joined Devil's Beatdown, recently recording with Greg Hetson (Bad Religon/Circle Jerks), and Chris Rakestraw. The Nixon Years is still together, sharing a studio with The Unwanted Guests, Mr. Firley, and Chalkie. Influences are many. Kurt comes from more of a metal background than punk, but likes both. Gordon grew up a punk and ska-head in Corona. He's almost decade younger than Erik and Kurt. Erik grew up in the east coast 80's punk scene, and was partial to reggae, and southern rock then as well. His first big show, at fourteen, was opening for Dag Nasty, Kingface, and the then punk Shutter to Think. Favorite bands change, but here's a current list in no particular order: propaghandi, bad religion, nofx, primus, no means no, dub trio, souljah, horton heat, nine pound hammer, stubborn
