Artist
Punk band The Adverts split up in late 1979 and 'main man' TV Smith formed a new band, T.V. Smith's Explorers, who released their debut single 'Tomahawk Cruise' (a response to the installation of BGM-109 Tomahawk cruise missiles on U.K. soil) in 1980, followed by an album, The Last Words of the Great Explorer (1981). There's a lot of confusion about the correct spelling of this band's name: is it T.V. Smith's Explorers or TV Smith's Explorers? Both spellings are getting quite a lot of scrobbles here on Last.fm. The most reasonable option is to go by the spelling used on the group's debut single and the sleeve of their only studio album: the preferred and most commonly used spelling for this band is T.V. Smith's Explorers (which is also how the band is listed on streaming platforms such as Spotify). Yes, we know: there's an anthology CD credited to TV Smith's Explorers and the most commonly used handle for Smith as a solo artist appears to be TV Smith (without dots). Let's just say it's complicated... yet, here we are. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
