Törzs are a Hungarian instrumental post-rock trio from Budapest. Members: ** Guitar: Soma Balázs ** Bass: Dániel Nyitray ** Drums: Tamás Szijártó (since around 2023) Ex members: ** Drums: Zsombor Lehoczky They formed in 2014 by members of the indie rock band Carbovaris. Their music blends elements of post-rock, shoegaze and ambient guitar music, drawing on the textural dynamics of 1990s alternative rock and electronic influences. The core of the band has long been guitarist Soma Balázs, bassist Dániel Nyitray and drummer Zsombor Lehoczky, who had played together in various projects since their youth before establishing Törzs as a new creative direction. () Initially working with vocals, the group gradually shifted toward a fully instrumental approach after early performances revealed a stronger connection through purely musical expression. Törzs emerged as one of Hungary’s leading instrumental post-rock acts, known for immersive compositions and an emphasis on atmosphere, repetition and gradual build. Their debut material appeared in 2015, accompanied by the film project Magasra fel, reflecting an early interest in pairing music with visual and natural environments. The band gained wider recognition with their 2019 album Tükör, recorded live in the Aggtelek cave system, approximately 500 metres underground. The natural acoustics of the cave became an integral part of the sound, contributing to the album’s critical reception and helping establish the band’s identity.
