"SYCAMORE may just be QUARTET, but don’t let this lull you into any sort of false sense of sonic security. Boom!. There’s just 8 guitars, but they're whipped into the loudest, sweetest sounding scuzz of wah and scorched tube driven noise, maybe ever. At least here in the Root Cellar. Sycamore are some twinkly daddies band and there’s also a cheesy, bluesy, broken down rock and roll complexion to their moderately paced, suicide-romantic, explosions of sound. This in many ways is down to the way the drums spill out their rhythms over the toms, as the tumbling tempo seems to verge on the freestyle at times. The guitars and bass lock into a series of solid, almost HXC movements, the wah singing out whilst on wild excursions of furious strumming and expressive single note screeches - there's also the odd delicious suggestion of some feedback (????).
