Artist
Born to a musical family and raised in Engelwood, New Jersey, Daryl Johns grew up playing jazz bass and received a special mention award at the 2009 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Bass Competition when he was 13 years old. A decade later, he briefly recorded trippy pop music under the name Sweet Joseph, releasing the single "Friends Forever" in October 2018 and "Corner Store" in January 2019, describing his sound as "guitar-rock-driven-bubblegum-pop through the lens of contemporary Jazz for the sake of feeling good." He later signed to Mac DeMarco's record label under the name Daryl Johns and issued his debut album, also titled Daryl Johns, which included both of his old Sweet Joseph songs.
