Artist
JEN LUSH [dancer and folk singer] and TOBIN LUSH [visual artist, designer and film maker] form SUVOME in '98, release their debut album [The Sunlight Embassy] in Australia in '99 and move to London. They are joined early in 2000 by MARK SCRUBY [guitarist, singer, drummer and founder of MODERN RECORDINGS]. MARK returns to Australia and an intercontinental flurry of 4-track recordings and MP3s ensues. Beats, samples, strings and keyboards come back shot through with guitars and feedback. Pages of notes and ideas cross oceans and timezones. Words and vocals are laid down in a central London basement. JEN and TOBIN head home for the southern summer and set up a studio in a yellow brick beachfront apartment. Gigs are booked and rehearsals begin amidst what fast becomes one of the hottest summers in living memory. The annual Australian heatwave finally gives way to Autumn and the SUBOMU mini-LP is released through MODERN RECORDINGS to critical acclaim across the country. The band grab a digital camera and shoot a film clip in the back of an 80s SAAB. It airs on national TV and raises eyebrows in the Antipodean rock establishment. SUVOME swagger through a procession of startling live shows in Melbourne, Adelaide and then Japan en route to another London summer. Work continues apace on material for album number three and the SUVOME juggernaut continues to pick up speed.
