The Surakarta Music Conservatory (STSI Surakarta) was founded in 1988; it houses ten sets of Javanese gamelan - slendro and pelog - including special gamelan sets of Sekaten, Kodok Ngorek, Monggang, and Corobalen. Members of the faculty of the Academy have recorded three albums of gamelan music from Central Java for the Arion label.
