SSSS (Super Seaweed Sex Scandal) creates a fast changing kaleidoscopic music that blends freeform improvisation with intricate compositional structures. Formed in June 2009 by six young New York musicians who first met at the scene surrounding the legendary East Village venue The Stone, this is the premier outfit featuring the youngest generation of New York's burgeoning Downtown scene. The players, still in their early twenties, hail from such diverse backgrounds as punk, noise, jazz, no-wave, classical and improvisation, and from such diverse places as Florida, Oregon, North Carolina, Colorado, New York and Hokkaido, Japan. Extending a lineage of hardcore jazz/noise/rock ferocity running from John Zorn and Ornette Coleman to Gyorgy Ligeti and The Ex, their music jump cuts from screeching saxophones and intense noise guitar to lyrical melodies and driving rhythms with lightning speed.
