SUOTANA is a Finnish melodic death metal band with strong influences from melodic black metal and power metal. Their sound is defined by atmospheric intensity, epic melodies, and a blend of aggression and grandeur that evokes the northern wilderness. Origins and Formation SUOTANA was originally founded in 2005 as a solo project by guitarist Ville Rautio. Shortly after, Pasi Portaankorva joined him, and together they laid the foundation for what would become the band’s distinctive style. The full lineup came together between 2012 and 2013, when Harri Portimo, Jari Körkkö, Juhani Merkkiniemi, and Rauli Juopperi joined the band. Early Releases • “Forgotten Soil Of This Land” (Demo, February 2014) • “Frostrealm” (Full-length album, November 2015) Both releases were well received by critics and fans alike, earning SUOTANA recognition in the melodic extreme metal scene for their blend of cold, atmospheric textures and energetic riffing. Line-up Changes and Evolution Following Frostrealm, SUOTANA underwent key lineup changes: • Tommi Neitola joined as keyboardist, bringing a cinematic and orchestral layer to the band’s sound. • Tuomo Marttinen took over vocal duties, adding a powerful and commanding voice to the lineup.
