The Sunset Four (also known as the Sunset Four Jubilee Singers) was a pioneering African-American vocal quartet that played a key role in the early recording era of the 1920s. Comprised of members Andy Bryant, Fred J. Vaughan, Leonard Burton, and William "Hoss" Crawford, the group specialized in the jubilee quartet tradition, characterized by tight four-part harmonies and a cappella spirituals. Between 1924 and 1925, they recorded extensively for Paramount Records, often performing under various names such as the Down Home Jubilee Quartette or Sunset Four Quartette. Their repertoire bridged the gap between traditional religious music and the emerging blues and jazz sounds of the decade, making them a significant part of the early "race records" market. Their track "Barnum's Steam Calliope" later found renewed recognition as the haunting theme to Matt Smith's character of Bully in the extended/director's cut version of Ryan Gosling's 2014 directorial debut, Lost River.
