Sumakh is a black metal band from Chernihiv, Ukraine, formed in 2022 and quickly establishing itself in the Eastern European underground with a sound that blends raw black metal roots with atmospheric and post-black metal textures. Drawing on themes of despair, existential emotion, pain, and sensual darkness, the band channels both furious intensity and haunting mood in its music. Initially started by guitarist Timofiy Buslovsky, vocalist Andriy Kozlovsky, and drummer Kyrylo Dragun, Sumakh later expanded its lineup with bassist Oleksandr Shilov and second guitarist Yevhen Saramok, rounding out a cohesive unit rooted in shared creative vision. Sumakh’s earliest official release was Live @ SoulPub, Chernihiv (2024), a raw live document capturing their early repertoire and fiery performance energy. They followed this with studio releases including the single “Руїни (Ruins)” and the EP Acceptance & Last Cry (2025), which showcased a more developed atmospheric black metal approach. Their full-length debut album Brink of Existence arrived in June 2025, presenting a carefully honed collection of tracks that reflect personal and emotional depth alongside brooding, expansive black metal soundscapes. Sumakh operates independently, drawing influence from atmospheric black metal, melancholic expression, and DSBM-tinged moods, with lyrics and compositions that often evoke introspection and emotional intensity.
