about

Sugarshack was formed back in 2001 in an abandoned house of St-David d’Yamaska by Alexandre Chenette and his cousin David Cyr. The duo was soon rejoined by high school friends Alexandre Tessier, Mathieu Lemay and Jean-Michel Simard. By laziness and lack of better options, the band was named Sugarshack, the "Sugar Shack" being the bar where Vanilla Ice meets his “crew” in the 1991 movie "Cool as Ice". Unaware at the time of the post-rock etiquette, the band described its music as instrumental stucco, crafted to be listened to laying on a bed, staring at a stucco ceiling. Characterized by long and repetitive riffs building slow crescendos and hypnotic landscapes, Sugarshack’s music has ever been and will ever be the product of four or more friends in a basement, trying to create the music they would like to hear. Thanks to the help of Cell Art Records, the band released in 2005 the Persepolis will burn again e.p. that was followed in April of 2009 by a full-length album entitled Stay Calm and Remain Quiet. The actual line-up of Sugarshack is Alexandre Chenette, Mathieu Lemay, Pierre-Yves Charland and Jean-Christophe Chenette.
