Artist
The dubious tales and truths of the campfire is no place for Sturla. His relation to traditonal music is one of free flight, touching base with impulses and ideas every so often. Anyone who´s heard Sturla´s striking musicality and fiddle skills can succumb to envy, and he continues to use his proficiency to create something uniquely his own: A personal map of folk music from Norway. Bypassing cliches and expectations, he maintains conventions and musical turns of phrase needed to create recognition for the impassioned listener. His ability to raise eyebrows, touch hearts and start processes are indicators of his determination and sense of direction. Not a single note is superflous. Arild Hoksnes Sturla Eide has been one of Norway´s most accomplished traditional fiddlers for many years. A professional since 1998, he teaches and performs internationally. Eide´s band "Flukt" has released two CDs ("Spill" in 2002 and "Drufiacc" in 2004), and his duo effort with guitarist Andreas Aase from 2003 ("Glimmer") earned him a nomination for Spellemansprisen - the Norwegian Grammy. Without conceding to modern styles and musicians, Sturla demonstrates how traditional music can be played more extrovertly and solid in every undertaking he´s involved in. His canvas of influences is large, but the outcome always ties in with the identity demands of traditional music, radiating joy in playing and brilliant compositions.
