London, Hertfordshire & Cornwall, England Jay Hollis: Vocals and Guitar Dan Pyne: Guitar and Vocals Les Cole: Drums and Percussion Steve Clear: Bass Guitar The sound of Stripdrive has been described variously and disparately as “60’s garage with 2010 energy”, “Santana jamming with Zappa and Beefheart” and “a row in a car park between Mark E Smith and David Byrne” - Comparisons that none of the band themselves understand; their influences include David Bowie, Supergrass, Peter Gabriel, Aimee Mann, John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Ian Dury, Led Zeppelin, Turin Brakes and Radiohead. Distilling the sound of Stripdrive into a clever, NME style one-liner is therefore not so easy. Founder members Dan Pyne and Jay Hollis have been working together for some years but Stripdrive really came into being with the addition of Les and Steve. Stripdrive’s songs are catchy, hook-laden moments of power pop in the truest sense. Infectious rock whose lyrics often belie a dark humour; sour little vignettes of life and bittersweet micro stories peopled with the misfits and the lost. “The Return of Big Hair” is their debut EP.
