Streetlight Cadence is an American alternative folk band consisting of founding member Jon Andrew Franklin (violin), Clara Stegall (guitar) and Ben Chai (banjo). Formed in 2010 in Honolulu, HI, they independently released the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award-winning albums Kalakaua Avenue (2014) and Beyond Paradise (2016) before relocating to Los Angeles, CA. In 2018, they self-produced the television show, Will Play For Food, which aired on KFVE on Hawaiian local television and earned an Emmy Award nomination. The band started by street performing around Waikiki during their college years in 2009, eventually settling into a rhythm with Daniel Duncan on guitar and vocals, Jon on violin, and Jesse Shiroma on accordion. From 2010 to 2014, the group welcomed fellow classmates into their nightly performances - Matt Mariconda and Lukas Mattice on guitar, Brian Webb, Maia Wolf and Aaron Tao on cello - before officially forming into a band with Jon, Jesse, Brian, and Chaz Umamoto on guitar. 2017 saw the departure of Chaz to focus on production work and the arrival of Ben Chai on drums while the band resided in Los Angeles. Following a couple of years producing Will Play For Food, as well as tours across the United States and Japan, the band formed into their current lineup with the departures of Brian and Jesse, Ben's switch from drums to banjo and the arrival of Clara in 2021. Since then, they have been compared with the likes of The Lumineers, The Avett Brothers, and Fleetwood Mac. The
