Hull-based alt-rock band, Strange Pink will release their debut single, 'Pencil Chewer' on March 23, 2025. The band, which features Nine Black Alps' Sam Forrest (vocals, guitar), alongside Edward Alan Logie (bass, backing vocals) and Dom Smith (drums), have crafted a Sonic Youth-infected shoegaze sound on the track. Mixed by Nick “The Muscle” Russell (Bedsit, ROTHCO) and mastered by Ed Woods (The Who, Manic Street Preachers), the track pulls together the trio’s 90s grunge influences, and a modern lo-fi post-punk energy. Forrest comments on the song's inspirations: “Pencil Chewer was the first song that we wrote as a group and it makes sense to make it our first release. too factual, not even psychodrama? how about this: We wrote Pencil Chewer while bathing in the blood of fascists and it’s dedicated to the memory of St Agatha of Sicily. “ The band will release their full EP, 'Out of Focus' later in 2025, with select live dates on the horizon.
