Stone Sour was an American rock band formed in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1992 by vocalist Corey Taylor and drummer Joel Ekman. The band performed for five years before disbanding in 1997. It reunited in 2000 and remained active until entering an indefinite hiatus in 2020. Since 2015, the lineup consisted of lead vocalist Corey Taylor, rhythm guitarist Josh Rand, drummer Roy Mayorga, bassist Johny Chow, and lead guitarist Christian Martucci. Former members included Joel Ekman, Shawn Economaki, Jim Root, and earlier contributors such as Rachel Bolan (studio involvement) and temporary live and touring musicians. The band recorded demo tapes in 1993, 1994, and 1996, with Jim Root joining in 1995. After an initial hiatus beginning in 1997, during which Taylor and Root focused on Slipknot, Stone Sour reformed in 2000. After Josh Rand joined in 2001, the band recorded its self-titled debut album, "Stone Sour", released in 2002. The album reached number 46 on the Billboard 200, was certified Gold, and included the song "Bother", which appeared on the "Spider-Man" soundtrack and charted highly, along with singles "Get Inside" and "Inhale", both of which received Grammy Award nominations for Best Metal Performance in 2003 and 2004. The band toured for several months with acts including Sinch and Chevelle before going on a temporary hiatus as members returned to Slipknot activities.
