Artist
Steve Abel is a New Zealand born singer songwriter. His songs have been described as elemental, beautiful and haunting. Abel's debut album Little Death (2006) was described as "a hidden treasure in the New Zealand music scene," and Abel was labelled "an extraordinarily good songwriter" by the Alternatui Awards which named Little Death 2006 Album of the Year. His follow up album FLAX HAPPY (2008), which features Texan chanteuse Jolie Holland, was equally well received with on critic labelling Abel as "In a community of poet troubadours" (Nick Bollinger, Radio NZ) "Abel is a refined writer whose lyrics have a bone-bare quality - the sound of someone writing and singing from a place where there is no guile, just hard truth and clear eyes." (Graham Reid, elsewhere.co.nz) Abel’s song Hospice for Destitute Lovers features in the gothic fairytale feature film Woodenhead by Florian Habicht (who also directed the video) and is currently a finalist in the ISC songwriting competition. Abel is presently based in Europe. Tracks can be downloaded at their offical website, www.abelsong.com.
