Status Quo are a British rock band formed in London in 1962. The group first achieved major success with the single "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 1968. Over the course of their career, they have had more than 60 chart hits in the United Kingdom, including "Caroline", "Down Down", "Rockin' All Over the World", "Whatever You Want" and "What You're Proposing". Of these, 22 reached the top 10 of the UK Singles Chart and 57 reached the top 40. The band have released more than 100 singles and 33 studio albums. In 1972, the album "Piledriver" reached number five on the UK Albums Chart, marking the beginning of a sustained period of commercial success. Status Quo subsequently placed 29 consecutive studio albums on the UK Albums Chart, including 20 that reached the top 10. In 2012, they were reported to be the tenth best-selling group in the history of the UK Singles Chart, with approximately 7.2 million singles sold in the United Kingdom. As of 2015, they were among a limited number of artists to have accumulated more than 500 weeks on the UK Albums Chart. In July 1985, Status Quo opened the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium with "Rockin' All Over the World". In 1991, they received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. In 2014, ahead of their appearance as headliners at the Download Festival, they were presented with the Service to Rock award at the Kerrang! Awards.
