Starship Mantis is a band that aims to provide a dynamic musical experience in a way that is accessible to musicians, music enthusiasts, and those who are simply looking to have a good time. The group combines the vocal and musical stylings of Jamiroquai with the characteristics of many other influences, both in and outside of the Funk style. In late 2016, Pittsburgh bassist, Beni Rossman, brought together current and former colleagues from different projects around the city. Rossman’s goal, while bringing together the members and the music of the band, was to combine the genres of Jazz, Funk, Hip-Hop, Pop, and EDM, into an intellectually and physically stimulating experience (in which their mantra reflects; “Your brain is in your butt”).
