Stars of Boulevard was formed in the summer of 2008 from 3 rivaling Vancouver bands. Ken Abbey, a ‘roots of rock’ trained shredder and Johnny Kaye, an aggressive styled rock bass player, were members of the same band for several years, sharing stages on several occasions with another band fronted by Josh Abel, a charismatic, melody and lyrics minded front man. Having established a friendly acquaintanceship with the two, Josh emailed Ken and Johnny just after parting ways with his band, and the timing was right as they were looking to start a new project too. After realizing they shared a similar passion for "true rock n’ roll", the trio locked down a jam room and went on a writing spree, while still going out most every night in the city of Vancouver, spreading the word about their newly formed band, later named Stars Of Boulevard - the name came from a local Casino that the group used to frequent named Boulevard Casino. At this point the band still didn’t have a definitive drummer because all the good drummers were either taken, or played in multiple bands at the same time, which didn’t appeal to the boys of SOB. Stars of Boulevard would go on to play with 3 different drummers that year, all of which didn’t work out for one reason or another. With frustration setting in, and even talks of relocation, everything quickly changed when their manager at the time mentioned a local band had broken up.
