Stan Graham is a British folk singer and songwriter. His musical journey began shortly after he retired from the Army when he joined York’s highly acclaimed Black Swan Folk Club as a resident singer. Subsequently, his songs (such as Whitby Harbour, Alice, Closing Time, and Sarajevo) have been covered by the likes of George Hamilton IV, Martyn Wyndham-Read, Vin Garbutt, Bill Whaley & Dave Fletcher and others. In 2010, one of his songs, “The Olive and The Vine”, was voted as one of the “Folk Songs Of The Decade” by an influential international panel of Folk Radio Presenters. In 2010, Graham accompanied Vin Garbutt on a tour of Australia, Malaysia and Singapore. He has played at many major Festivals, and numerous Folk Clubs across UK. He has appeared on stage with Geordie Lindisfarne, George Hamilton IV, Boo Hewerdine, Eddie Reader, Martyn Carthy, The McCalman’s, Emily Smith, and Blazing Fiddles. These days he can be found hosting folk music slots on local radio stations including BBC Radio York. Graham is a past-winner of the Keith Marsden Songwriting Competition and also a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 ‘Search For A Song’ competition. Graham’s song “The Olive and The Vine” was voted in 2010 as “One Of The Folk Songs Of The Decade” by the federation of Folk Radio Presenters in Australia and The USA.
