Spirit Elevating Brains (SEB...) is the name used by Sebastian Alvarez (born 1978 in Lima, Peru) for his experimental electronic music mostly influenced by early electronics, noise, glitch hop, musique concrete, jazz, lo-fi, shibuya-kei, exotica, nostalgic ambient, minimal tech, and modern classical. Alvarez's work typically utilizes samples hand picked from various sources such as scratched vinyls, old thrift-shop cassette tapes, low bit rate internet sounds, and raw files mixed with his own midi adventures, vocal effects, and personal field recordings. Aware of the massive usage of software/hardware in contemporary music and the effects media over-stimulation has on our brain , SEB... uses the immediacy of computer editing techniques to compose many of his pieces in a spontaneous and unintentional way. This allows him to engage in the playful process of improvisation while enjoying the aesthetics of failure. With structures from traditional pop-songs, Spirit Elevating Brains tends to satirize and manipulate the predictability of this genre.
