Special Fangz is a German pop punk duo composed of Hamburg-based musician Simon Robben, who also performs as Zirkel, and a female vocalist from Essen. Special Fangz mostly plays pop punk and emo covers. Their name is a reference to the opening line from the Harry Potter fanfiction My Immortal by Tara Gilesbie. Robben, who began playing guitar at ten and later learned bass and drums, initially gained experience as the frontman of his school band, Department Store. In his teens, he explored various genres, starting in metal and punk, with particular inspiration from Green Day, before experimenting with rap under the name Psyman. From 2013 to 2017, Robben performed as part of the rap duo Die von Gestern, eventually transitioning to a solo career in 2018 as MC Zirkel (later Zirkel). Since then, he has produced music drawing on both punk and rap styles, with his output heavily influenced by early 2000s skate punk. Special Fangz debuted with a cover of Kyle Gordon’s “Planet of the Bass” on August 23, 2023, establishing their approach to punk-infused cover songs. This was followed by additional covers, including “Beautiful Girls” by Sean Kingston on December 7, 2023, and “In Our Darkest Hour” by Phantom Planet on April 26, 2024. They released the single “Crushing Hard” on July 19, 2024, followed by a cover of “10 Drunk Cigarettes” by Girly Girl Productions on September 11. Their single, “Literally Me, When I Want to Stay This Way,” arrived on September 27, 2024. User-contributed
