Speak & The Spells are a trio of eighteen year-olds Joe, Benjamin and Alex. Based in West London, they met in high school and share a mutual love of obscure music. Bored with what had become a tired and generic music scene, and sick of the trendy clubs of the east end , they took it into their own hands and created Ricky Ticks: A club night stripped down to simplicity, to how it should be. Based in a cellar just off Oxford Street, they play their favourite records and invite their friends to do the same. They also used Ricky Ticks as a showcase for Speak & The Spells, who would play every last Saturday. Eventually, other promoters started to take notice of their unpredictable, energetic performances. Inspired by everything from freakbeat to psych to early punk, the band refuses to be categorized as just another garage trio.
