Spastic Ink is an American technical metal band formed in 1993 in San Antonio, Texas, by guitarist Ron Jarzombek following the breakup of his previous band, Watchtower. The band is known for blending complex progressive metal with elements of cartoon music and film soundtracks, drawing inspiration from a range of sources including UK, Rush, Steve Vai, Carl Stalling, and Danny Elfman. The original lineup included Ron Jarzombek, his brother and drummer Bobby Jarzombek, and bassist Pete Perez, both of whom were also members of Riot at the time. In 1994, the band recorded a demo but faced difficulties securing a record deal due to the music being considered commercially unviable. Eventually, Spastic Ink signed a licensing agreement with the German label Dream Circle, which released the cleaned-up and partially re-recorded demo material as the album "Ink Complete" in 1997. The album was reissued in 2000 by Jarzombek's EclecticElectric label, featuring an additional 25 minutes of work tapes as bonus material. Plans for a second album were delayed due to scheduling conflicts, particularly Bobby Jarzombek's commitments to Riot and his later involvement with Halford, the band formed by former Judas Priest vocalist Rob Halford. Attempts to include drummers Sean Reinert (Cynic, Gordian Knot) and Asgeir Mickelson (Spiral Architect) were unsuccessful.
