Artist
Sparrow Hill are: Sonia Tsai – vocals, electric and acoustic guitars Rachel Tsai – drums Melissa Ratliff – keyboards and vocals Cameron Krone – bass Sydney-based band Sparrow Hill formed in 2002. The Tsai sisters spent many of their adolescent years playing drums and guitar in the front room of their home. Sonia started songwriting during this time and continued writing solo before the band evolved fairly organically over the years. Sparrow Hill’s sound has been defined loosely between folk and pop with a bit of country thrown in. Their songs are often sparse with darker shades but the strong vocal harmonies and melodic hooks take them somewhere brighter. They are currently working up new material that they hope to record later in the year. In January 2004 they recorded some songs as part of the SBS Whatever Sessions. The Whatever Sessions compilation of emerging Australian artists was released in November of the same year, and was followed up by Sparrow Hill’s debut full-length album Until You Go, released in July 2005 through Sydney indie label Feral Media. Several of the songs on Until You Go received rotation on FBi 94.5FM and the band has performed live to air on various programs at the station since its release. Sparrow Hill have played live shows with a diverse range of bands and performers, listed below in alphabetical order: Architecture in Helsinki, Artifishal Limb, Barrage, Brothers of the Occult Sisterhood, Broken Hills, By the Sea, Clair Birchill, Clare
