Sound Animal is a genre-defying band in Berkeley, California, playing a multitude of unusual instruments. Some instruments most often played in the songs include pungi from India, khaen from Thailand, triangle drum from Peru, Celtic bodhran, snare drum, cajon, pennywhistle, silver flute, slide flute, boatswain's pipe, double wind wand, recorder, Balinese suling, saxmonica, Chinese tremolo harmonica, melodica, electric bass and guitar, fretless slide lap steel, dulcimers often played with a violin bow, Greek double shepherd's flute, very recently a midi, and many found objects such as an electrified tennis racket. Many songs are electro-acoustic, beginning with those instruments but manipulating the sounds in the DAW so they are often unrecognizable. Some genre influences include Drone Metal, Psychedelic Stoner Doom, Space Rock, Ambient, Experimental, Krautrock, Psychedelic/Freak Folk, Dark Ambient, Noise Metal, Neo-Psych Rock, Atmospheric Black Metal, all the period music loosely referred to as Classical. Kryrart Ambient released the Experimental Dark Ambient album NewSoundLand in 2021 on Bandcamp, and their parent label, Kryrart Records, plans to release the full length Dystopian Avant-Garde Metal album in Death of Ages in 2022, which will be on CD. The label also has put out some singles. Sound Animal has also self-released singles and EPs digitally.
