Soul Tattoo is a soulfully dark rock'n'roll quartet. The music is colored by elements ranging from underground pop and gothic grunge to country punk and deep blues. Samuli Laiho's infectious music combined with J. Sydänmäki's wild verbal vision, filtered through the fevered and hypnotic sound of the band create a truly original combination, a new elementary particle with a long history reaching back into the 80s and the musician's shared history as a part of Hearthill. - At some point it became obvious that it was time to get back to basics, to grab a guitar and let the inner rhythm take over. The result was a pile of rock songs without a finished textual layer, says guitarist/composer Samuli Laiho regarding his renewed collaboration with singer/lyricist J. Sydänmäki. Thus was born the spark that escalated into a full conflagration by ythe spring of 2004 when old friends bassist Jukka Kiviniemi and drummer Sasu Moilanen joined the fray. Soul Tattoo started recording their debut album at Musicmakers studio in the 1st of March, 2004. Scarecrow Jimmy was released as a debut single in June 23rd. The video was directed by Finnish filmmaker Claes Olsson. August saw the release of a radiopromo single The Ghosts Of Love. The self-titled debut album saw the fluorescent light of the record store 20.9.05. It was a critical success and gained a lot of airplay on Radio Helsinki.
