Artist
Soul Daddy was raised in the city of Atlanta, where he refined his skills in emcee battles and live shows. His childhood was inspired and influenced by hip-hop, classic jazz, soul and funk. He learned to incorporate these influences into his own music, and found that his new musical direction resonated with listeners in a fresh and exciting way. Eventually enticed by the allure of the West, Soul Daddy moved to Denver a few years ago. After a year of hosting The Speakeasy in Denver, a jazz & poetry open mic at Dazzle, Soul Daddy has continued to perform regularly with his band Blackfyre, making monthly appearances at Herb's Hideout and India's Pearl, as well as shows at other venues around the city and Boulder, including The Meadowlark, Cervantes, The Laughing Goat and more. An avid fan of both comic books and campy humor, Soul Daddy has a mental catalog of Steven Wright jokes that slip into his live performances from time to time, often to the chagrin of his band. Soul Daddy’s CD, A Safe Place, is a soothing fusion of hip-hop with musical elements ranging from neo-soul to jazz, blues and folk (masterfully mixed and recorded by Micah Ortega, formerly of Five Iron Frenzy).
