The group Sorry Music comes from Zelenograd on the outskirts of Moscow, an area that - to this day - enjoys the lingering, acrid atmosphere of Soviet industry. It’s this peripheral position - not quite being in the capital - that gives the band their particular sound. (Any Soviet suburb that calls itself “Greentown” is probably hiding some grim scenery. Especially when it puts two cute squirrels on its crest.) And so, when you’re raised amid smoke stacks, low-grade asphalt, and shallow-breathing forest animals… …chances are you’ll be up for a good scrap now and then. Sorry Music (who refuse to divulge the secret of their name) sound much closer to the Arctic Monkeys than a lot of Russian bands, including their very gobby vocals. Zelenograd is only 23 miles from downtown Moscow - it’s certainly not Sheffield - but that’s far enough from the bling of Red Square boutiques to engender a scrappy provincialism.
