Show Review by Alex Kincaid on November 18th, 2012 @ The Stanhope House: The members of Sons of Paterson set up their equipment on stage while fans sit on chairs in the audience. They fiddle through their smart phones, awaiting a self proclaimed hip-hop band in which the drummer rocks a slayer shirt, the keyboardist plays vMario theme music to test his sound, the bassist lays in a yoga position, the guitarist talks to a cute girl in front of the stage and the rapper bobs his head and moves his lips in front of the microphone, free styling. Zen isn’t the word, but it’s the first that comes to mind. Standing in front of the crowd I am the only one aware of what is about to happen when these gentlemen pick up their instruments. Women will be aroused and men will be inspired. Text messages will be ignored and passions will be ignited. I stand amongst three nonchalant bystanders, knowing every seated person will be on their feet once Erick, the guitarist enters with the opening riff from their first song. “Don’t Sweat the Technique.” By mid song I’m shoved down by a flock of girls, young and old. My ankle was sprained so after their push I fell to the ground. I stood up to reassert myself in the front of the stage, but they weren’t having any of it. The girls were dancing.
