Artist
Sonoko Kawai (born June 20, 1965) is Japanese singer. Sonoko had great promise when she won the "Idol Dancepop" contest in 1983. In 1985 she joined the now legendary Onyanko Club. She soon released her debut solo single Namida no Jasmine Love that same year. Her popularity within Onyanko was great enough that she overshadowed most of the other girls and soon "graduated" into solo status. In 1987, she released her fourth album Rouge et Bleu. All songs were written by Goto Tsugutoshi, who would later become her husband. Sonoko also entirely produced this album and had now come into control of the direction of her music - much more mature than her early days in Onyanko. Her artistic breakthrough came in 1990 with the release of the album Replica in which she wrote or co-wrote all of the songs. With this album, she transcended being an idol and matured into a legitimate singer-songwriter. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
