Sonic Lens is an exploration into the boundaries between music and soundscape, spontaneous imagination and planned form. While some may describe it as ambient, there is nearly always a strong harmonic and musical underpinning even to the noise, with a particular setting or story in mind. The compositional process nearly always involves a synaesthetic vision inspired by the sounds (or sounds inspired from visuals), and it is hoped the listener will also 'see' the music in some form. Russ Magee [Arghblarg] was infected with the ethos of Progressive and New Wave music via his older siblings, being exposed to music that was technically slightly before his time -- growing up hearing early Genesis, Yes, Peter Gabriel, Talking Heads, and the like through the bedroom walls. His early exposure to great works of SF, combined with his own interest in biology, paleontology and astronomy drove him to search for what common threads exist between Art and Science. In retrospect, it was probably natural for him to become fascinated with early personal computers and his older brother's Jupiter-8 and Alpha-Juno synths at about the same time.
