Solitary Neglect was started by Dan around March of 1999. The band was a typical suburban hardcore punk band, comprised of local skaters band BMXers. Dan was 15 and Erik was 17, and we didn't have a clue how to play our instruments or write songs. Early on, we had lots of our friends in the band, but most weren't really into the music which made finding a stable line-up difficult. Our songs were influenced by bands like Hellnation, Dropdead, and Code 13 along with some early '80s hardcore. But without enough members to fill out an entire band, it disintegrated over the year. Erik always wanted to record the original songs that were written though just to have, so in April of 2001, we got our friend Chris from local band Full Scale Assault to play drums and had Dan switch over to guitar to record a demo as a three piece. Chris enjoyed playing with us and asked if we'd be interested in making a band out of it again. We agreed to go ahead with it and eventually recruited Jeff from another local band, the Dirty 30s, to play guitar. At this point, we had our first ever stable line-up and steadily began writing songs over the next year. The early material was pretty abysmal, and it took us a while to develop our own sound. Over time, our songs became heavily influenced by bands like Heresy, Ripcord, and Siege. We then began playing shows regularly in December of 2002. With this line-up, we were fortunate enough to play some great shows, release a split 7" with Blastonecrosis from
