about

Soap Star Joe started life in a garage in the southern Sydney suburb of Miranda in 1996, based around the unique songwriting of singer/guitarist Mick Wilson. With a sound that revolved around the tension of the three piece, from buzzsaw guitars to touching, bubbly pop at it’s most gleeful, to ballads of piercing tenderness, Soap Star Joe never took the easy way out. Wilson’s songs were filled with observations of the world he inhabited, finding beauty and drama in the everyday mundane life that most take for granted. With references to haircuts, bus stops, RSL clubs and traffic jams the lyrics are personal enough to be universal. With a variety of rhythm sections, the group released a number of 7” singles and EPs, and gigged regularly around Australia. The band finally gelled in late 2000 with David Keys on bass and Saul Foster on drums, and things kicked into a higher gear. In 2003 Soap Star Joe released their debut album "Tell Her On The Weekend" to critical acclaim from the indie press but sadly decided to call it a day not long afterwards before they found the widespread fame they deserved.
