So Long Princess is a rock band formed in 2005 by four Harvard College undergraduates in Cambridge, MA. Though the band draws from a diverse pool of influences, ranging from blues to metal to pop punk and modern posthardcore, SLP's fun-loving attitude and energetic live shows are more the focus than musical talent. All of the band's songs reference the original Star Wars trilogy. The band first gained notoriety in the Boston music scene through airplay on local indie station WHRB 95.3 FM and guerrilla shows that included the band playing at full volume at coffeehouse open mics and the hijacking of dorm basement rooms for impromptu performances that required attendants to shotgun cheap beer between each song. It is not uncommon to see plastic lightsaber battles or fans braving asphyixiation in stormtrooper costumes at an SLP show.
