Slash Fiction is a Sheffield based queercore and emo quintet known for their intricate blend of political punk, fourth-wave emo, and indie-pop/rock. Emerging from the underground scene of South Yorkshire in 2018, the band has cultivated a following through a discography that deals with themes of gender dysphoria, traumatic grief, structural inequality, and the redemptive power of chosen family. While formally established in 2018, the band’s original members, Niamh "Beans" Webster (bass/vocals), Sean Collison (guitar), and Jamie Drinkwater (drums) shared a collaborative history dating back to 2011. Frustrated by the limitations of solo acoustic projects, Webster sought to create a new band. The lineup was completed via Twitter recruitment with Dan Stringer (guitar/vocals) and later Jess O'Sullivan (keys/vocals). The moniker "Slash Fiction" is a deliberate reference to the literary genre of fan fiction focused on same-sex relationships (originating with "Kirk/Spock" stories in the 1960s). To date, the band's discography includes the debut EP Flowers and the single "Regrets," both released in 2018, followed by the single "For Matt" in 2019. Their first full-length album, Gender, Trauma & Friendship, arrived in 2021. In 2024, the band released the singles "Catastrophising" and "Golden Hour" preceding their sophomore album, We'll Hold This Line Until Hell Freezes Over.
