Artist
Slain of Myself (RIP) was a North Coast Hardcore (NCHC) band with influences such as Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, Living Sacrifice, Zao, Underoath, Symphony in Peril, Beloved, Mortal Treason and Nodes of Ranvier. Led by frontman Matt Grills - who was known for wearing stockings on his arms, climbing onto speaker stacks, backflipping off stages and other such antics at shows - the band delivered hard hitting songs containing brutal breakdowns, squealing guitars and lyrics about the Christian faith. Popular songs included "A Journey of Self Destruction has been Thwarted and U-Turned into a Life of Liberation" and "The Vicious Ceasing Cycle". Slain played their last set in 2005 at the Lion's Den; the final show to ever be held at the Ann Street gig spot in Brisbane. Members have since been involved in bands such as the Threshing Floor (RIP) and Saint Lucia (RIP).
